Welcome to the Complexicon Project

Why I’m spending a year asking 100 people what makes something complex — and why I want you to come along for the ride.

Over this first stretch of the Complexicon Project, I’ll be interviewing 100 people about what makes their work complex (note: complexity in personal life is fair game too). Meanwhile, I’ll be building out a “Complexicon” from the descriptions of complexity while learning from and with you, my fellow complexinauts.

What is a Complexicon?
The Complexicon aims to connect complexity concepts with a specific lexicon that serves as a language container specific to spheres of knowledge. Ideally, the Complexicon will be a living and growing resource for complexity-related language. The Complexicon, at least the one I hope to reel you into building with me, will include descriptions, depictions, and imagery of what makes our worlds complex.

Since I’m already on a roll, playing around with the word complexity, I imagine that the contributors to the Complexicon are complexinauts… people who explore the world of complexity and can share their insights for others to discover and explore.

PS - The idea of the Complexicon Project grew out of my doctoral research on how skilled practitioners navigate complexity in their work. This project builds on my research and all sorts of complexity ideas I have been collecting and ruminating on ever since.
